No. No app, no account, no wifi, no firmware. Take it out of the box and it works.

Tap the top to cycle through the 13 colours. Hold to turn it off. The remote handles the rest — brightness from 20 to 100%, any colour directly, flash, strobe or fades modes and the sleep timer.
